First-grade enrollment around 6 years old. This figure shows the relationship between birthday and being enrolled in the first grade at around 6 years of age. The center of the graphs is zero, which represents January 1. The first graph shows the relationship for boys and the second for girls. Data come from PNAD for cohorts born between July 1985 and June 1991, living in the Northeast region. The sample is weighted to resemble the parental education of college candidates. Functions are estimated using a triangular kernel with the bandwidth selection procedure proposed by Calonico et al. (2014). Ï„ is the RD estimate, with robust standard errors in parentheses. *** represents statistical significance at the 1 % level
