Formal employment in Mexico, 2005–2013. (a) Over Time; (b) Over the Life Cycle. Note: a worker is formal if he has health insurance and social security services from the Mexican Institute of Social Security or the Institute of Security and Social Services for the State Workers. In order to receive either service, the worker must pay labor income taxes through their employer. We deflate all income measures to 2010 pesos using the Consumer Price Index of the Mexican government. The data comes from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (NSOE).
