  1. Note: this table contains summary statistics for household heads observed in the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (NSOE). The statistics describe the observable characteristics of the household heads the first time they were observed in the sample. Individuals are classified as formally employed if they have health insurance from the Mexican Institute of Social Security or the Institute of Security and Social Services for the State Workers. In order to receive either service, the worker must pay labor income taxes through his employer. Otherwise, he or she is classified as an informal employee.
